Clarkston, Michigan – This week M.G.A visited Shepherd’s Hollow. http://www.shepherdshollow.com/
Located at 9085 Big Lake road this course is located between 75 and Dixie Highway. Rates are 18 holes for $70 M-F but before 9:00 am its only $49. On weekends rates are $80 but after 11:00 am its $65 all rates include a cart. So plan accordingly because timing can really make a difference. The course is 27 holes so its a toss up which sets on 9 you will be facing. Which I think improves the replay value. You could potentially have a different experience every round. They also have a driving range next to the parking lot nicely sectioned off by pines. We played after 11:00am so we paid $65. We all felt it was pricey but we heard so much about the course that we had to pay it to see for ourselves. Let me tell you that we all would have been happy to pay the full $80. The course is stunning and the clubhouse is spectacular. Extremely well maintained and properly manicured. The staff was organized and courteous and the starter was fun to chat with telling us about his favorite par 4 and obstacles to watch out for. We started on 19 the hole is tucked in between a group of tall pines which sets the tone and makes you feel like you’re on a vacation in northern Michigan. It was a par 4 with a slight dogleg right with bunkers placed along the right edge. The course is rolling and wide ranging but if you mishit to a tree line plan on taking a drop. There are numerous trees I honestly can not wait to play this course in the fall with all the color changes! The greens were immaculate a touch on the faster side but well kept and consistent. Honestly a real treat to putt on. The group favorite of this course was hole #2 a par 3 where the green is about 170 yards out below your feet and across a subtle ravine. It has a couple strategically placed front bunkers to the left and a tight tree line to the right which puts pressure on you to make a precise shot. At the turn we stopped at the clubhouse where we of course ordered a bite to eat and cold beverage. The bartender Jill was quite enjoyable and engaging. Her smile and diligent pace left us with food and drink in hand as fast as we could have hoped. Definitely a people pleaser which makes the atmosphere in the clubhouse pleasant and relaxing. Overall we felt the course was simply amazing as well as challenging. It will move you emotionally… visually as well as strategically as you work your way through each magnificent hole. We strongly recommend this course… it’s a must place play course. Your bar of expectations from a golf course will be forever raised.
