The Links at Crystal Lake Review

Pontiac, Michigan – This week M.G.A visited The Links at Crystal lake. A place we like to call “ Home Base ”.  Located in the suburbs of Pontiac, we found it to be quite a hidden gem.  Rates are reasonable 18 holes for $27 M-F and weekends at $34 with a $12 cart fee. The staff is graciously friendly and go out of their way to satisfy all your golfing needs.  They were on point with getting us out for our tee time and left us confident that the round would be nothing short of delightful.  Kyle the starter was organized and timely which was awesome!  Pulling up to the first hole which is a drivable par 4 you recognize well-kept fairways and plush tee boxes and quickly become eager to fire off your first shot.  With a decent approach shot you get your first glimpse of the carpet like greens.  Full lush and consistent we all loved putting on them.  The speed of the greens left you feeling solidly in control of your putt.  If only the birdies would have fallen!  A group favorite is the 5th hole par 3 where the shot just requires an easy PW but is strategically positioned between water and bunkers so it tests your club finesse.  The course is relatively open but has a number of dog-legs and elevation changes that keeps you quite engaged and interested.  At the turn we stopped at the clubhouse.  We were pleasantly refueled by the charismatic and happy
bartender Jill.  They don’t have a beverage cart which is disappointing but Jill more than makes up for it with her friendliness and ability to pour the perfect drink.   On the back 9 we were just as impressed.  Many of the holes have water which makes it more fun and dramatic on mishits. Everyone loved the 13th hole par 5 where we could just unleash our drives.   Just stay right of the water.   After 13 is a charming drive across a wooden bridge that delivers you to the island par 3.  This hole is a small peninsula and seems to always give us problems, but we look forward to its challenge every time!  We finished the round in great time playing at a fun pace and when returning the carts wanted nothing more to keep playing…  so… we did!   We highly recommend this course to all skill level of golfers.  Its beautiful, serene and challenging.  You could quite possibly find yourself calling it “ Home Base ” like we do!
